To avoid pricey hotel stays, plan your lodging ahead of time. I was lucky, but that’s not the case for everyone. Opt for a location near your campus or on a dependable Tube line to reduce travel time to morning classes.

Quickly handle these necessary tasks upon your arrival:
- Money transfers – International students require economical methods to send money. Services like Wise or Revolut provide competitive rates.
- UK SIM card – Obtain one swiftly for data and navigation in your new locale.
- Bank account – Quick setup with digital banks such as Monzo or Starling is advantageous and tailored for students. Get one for handling transactions and part-time income.
- Student ID card – This is vital for accessing campus facilities, library services, and student discounts. Acquire it promptly.
Significance of Your Initial Week at Imperial
Your first week is essential for connecting with flatmates, classmates, and potential friends. Participate in Welcome Week activities and discover over 350 student-led clubs and societies. Even if you are reserved, challenge yourself to get involved. I formed lasting friendships while participating in campus tours and visiting society booths. This week establishes the foundation for your university journey.
Getting Around London: Smart Travel Tips
In my first week, I ended up walking nine kilometers across London because I struggled with the Tube and buses. Don’t make the same error. Acquire a Student Oyster card and apply for the 18+ discount for reduced fare travel. Walking remains an excellent way to uncover hidden treasures.
Identify Your Comfort Zones
London can be a lot to process. Find a favorite spot, such as a café or park, where you can unwind and recharge. I enjoy a nearby park and the O2 for films. Discover your own respite locations throughout the city.
