Upon finishing my final examination at Imperial, which signified the conclusion of my eighteen-month academic experience, I began to contemplate my journey and the lessons I had acquired, both academically and personally. My time at Imperial has been life-changing, and I wish to share my reflections for those contemplating studying here.
1. Select your course thoughtfully
With a foundation in Physics, I first enrolled in a full-time Pure Mathematics Master’s program. However, I discovered that my true interests were more aligned with dynamical systems than with strictly theoretical topics. Although I lacked the prerequisites for several modules I desired, I aimed to catch up through diligent effort. Nevertheless, during exams, I found it exceedingly difficult to meet the requirements of the pure mathematics modules.
This prompted me to transition to the part-time MSc Applied Mathematics program. While it was demanding, this choice enabled me to concentrate on subjects that intrigued me and to balance my academic pursuits with my startup activities.

2. Follow your passions
Imperial features a rich variety of extracurricular activities, boasting over 300 clubs and societies through the union. I participated in welcome fairs and joined various society taster sessions, which aided me in determining which groups I wished to be a part of.
I also managed to overcome my reluctance to change societies mid-term, enabling me to connect with a diverse assortment of individuals across Imperial. Make the most of your leisure time and treat yourself to enjoyable activities as a reward for your hard work!
3. Make use of available resources
Imperial provides excellent resources to foster your ideas: The Enterprise Lab, Advanced Hackspace, and a strong research framework. If you have a vision for a project, don’t hesitate to reach out and get involved.

If entrepreneurship isn’t necessarily your area, consider giving it a shot. Your Master’s program might be the last opportunity you have to enjoy the freedom of being a student, so embrace risks – you never know where they could lead!
4. Seek assistance when necessary
Imperial is recognized for its diligent student body, where many engage in elite sports, launch startups, or intern at prestigious companies. This environment can be invigorating as it encourages you to reach your potential.
