Transitioning to London as an international student swiftly highlights the steep living expenses, encompassing rent, groceries, travel, and tuition fees. Moreover, the professional environment is notably different, featuring fresh methodologies in work, communication, and creativity.
Part-time jobs have connected these realms for me, assisting in financial management and offering insights into the UK market, particularly in marketing and customer experience. My initial and preferred position was as a MORA Content Creator with Imperial’s central marketing team. Producing content for a prominent university was an extraordinary and influential experience.
Becoming a MORA Content Creator
Collaborating with the MORA team to generate content for over 700,000 followers on Imperial’s social media was a dream come true. It involved narrative crafting and showcasing student experiences, grasping institutional communication, and recognizing the importance of tone and authenticity for varied audiences.
This role presented unexpected chances, including interviewing notable personalities like Rishi Sunak and Akshata Murty. The MORA team is supportive, fostering innovation and exploration. For those passionate about storytelling and content initiatives, it stands out as one of the top part-time positions at Imperial.

Managing work and study
Juggling work and study necessitates organization. I arranged shifts during less intense class weeks. Focus on your degree, but a well-selected part-time job can enrich your academic pursuits. Marketing coursework became more relevant when applied in practical job settings.
Exploring various part-time roles
Throughout my Master’s, I experimented with numerous roles such as waiter, event manager, barista, and bartender. Each role imparted unique insights. Positions in hospitality provided genuine customer service experience, taught patience, teamwork, and remaining composed under pressure. These abilities last well beyond the café environment.
Financial autonomy and visa stipulations
Part-time positions were vital for financial support, covering rent, transportation, and daily expenses while allowing for some savings. International students are permitted to work up to 20 hours weekly during term and can engage in full-time work during breaks, balancing earnings with relaxation.
