Upon relocating to London as an international student, you soon become aware of how costs like rent, groceries, transport, and tuition can add up. Part-time employment acted as a bridge for me, aiding in financial management and providing insights into the UK market, especially regarding marketing and customer experience. My initial and favorite role was as a MORA Content Creator with the central marketing team at Imperial. Earning a salary to produce content for a prominent university was surreal and had a positive impact on my year.
Becoming a MORA Content Creator
Collaborating with the MORA team and generating content for over 700,000 individuals across Imperial’s social media channels was a fantasy. It encompassed more than just filming or writing; it involved storytelling, sharing student experiences, grasping institutional communication, and recognizing the tone and authenticity that appeal to various audiences.
This position unveiled surprising opportunities, such as interviewing prominent figures like Rishi Sunak and Akshata Murty. These moments would not have materialized without embracing that initial chance. The MORA team is encouraging, supportive, and offers a creative atmosphere to innovate. If storytelling excites you and you wish to partake in engaging content projects, this is among the finest part-time roles at Imperial.

Numerous methods exist to discover part-time work while pursuing studies at Imperial. I secured mine via Imperial’s internal job portals on JobsLive, LinkedIn, and career fairs during Welcome Week. Keep in mind that most employers look for reliability, initiative, and a friendly demeanor in addition to experience.
Balancing work and study
Effectively balancing work and classes necessitates organization. I arranged shifts during periods when my class load was lighter. Your studies should come first, but a strategically chosen part-time position can enhance your academic experience. My marketing coursework became more pertinent when connected to real-world jobs.
Sampling various part-time jobs
Throughout my Master’s program, I explored different jobs such as waiter, event manager, barista, and bartender. Each position imparted distinct lessons. Work in hospitality taught me genuine customer service, patience, teamwork, and maintaining composure under pressure. These skills have persisted beyond the coffee shop.

Financially, part-time jobs were vital. I was able to cover rent, transportation, and living expenses while also saving some money.
