Upon your arrival in London as an international student, you’ll swiftly observe how costs such as housing, groceries, transportation, and tuition can pile up. Moreover, the professional atmosphere seems different, with novel ways of operating, interacting, and viewing creativity in contrast to what you’re accustomed to back home.
Personally, part-time employment bridged these two realms for me, assisting in financial management and gaining insight into the UK market, particularly from a marketing and customer experience standpoint. My initial and most cherished position was as a MORA Content Creator with Imperial’s main marketing department. Being compensated to produce content for a prestigious university felt surreal and positively influenced my year.

Such experiences would not have unfolded without embracing that initial opportunity. The MORA team is welcoming and supportive, offering a creative environment to explore. There are numerous avenues to discover part-time work while studying at Imperial. I secured mine through Imperial’s internal job boards on JobsLive, LinkedIn, and career events during Welcome Week. Remember, employers value reliability, initiative, and friendliness alongside experience.
**Balancing work and study**
Managing work and academic commitments requires organization. I selected shifts when my class schedule was less demanding. Your degree should remain your primary focus, but a thoughtfully chosen part-time job can enhance your studies. My marketing coursework gained greater significance when I encountered those concepts in professional settings.
**Exploring different part-time jobs**
During my Master’s, I explored various positions such as waiter, event manager, barista, and bartender. Each role imparted unique lessons. Working in hospitality taught me essential customer service skills, patience, teamwork, and how to maintain composure under pressure.
