As soon as you get to London, take care of these necessities:
- Money transfers – International students require economical means to transfer funds. Apps like Wise or Revolut provide favorable exchange rates.
- UK SIM card – Acquire one right away for data and navigation in your new surroundings.
- Bank account – Digital banks like Monzo or Starling are fast and student-friendly. Open an account for regular transactions and part-time job payments.
- Student ID card – Crucial for accessing campus facilities, libraries, and student discounts. Get it as early as you can.
Significance of Your Initial Week at Imperial
Your first week at Imperial is vital. It’s the time to meet flatmates, classmates, and potential friends. Participate in Welcome Week to explore over 350 student-led clubs and societies, and engage in activities that interest you.
Even if you’re reserved, challenge yourself to take part. I formed lasting friendships during campus tours and society booths. Your first week establishes the foundation for your university experience.
Smart Travel in London
At first, I struggled with the Tube and buses and ended up walking nine kilometers across London. Prevent this by getting a Student Oyster card and applying for the 18+ discount for cheaper fare.
However, walking remains the finest way to soak in the urban atmosphere and culture. Uncover hidden treasures by meandering through the streets.
Identify Your Comfort Zones
London can feel intense. Establish a comfort zone, such as a park or a cherished venue, to help you unwind and recharge. It could be a café, bookstore, or a bench by the river. These places can be more beneficial than you might anticipate.
