- UK SIM card – Obtain one promptly to prevent being stranded without data.
- Bank account – Digital banks such as Monzo or Starling are swift and favorable for students. You’ll require an account for everyday transactions and part-time job payments.
- Student ID card – This is essential for gaining entry to campus facilities, libraries, and student discounts. Collect it as quickly as you can.
Your Initial Week at Imperial is Vital
The first week is significant for connecting with flatmates, classmates, and future companions. Participate in Welcome Week to discover over 350 student-run clubs and societies. Even if you’re reserved, make an effort to join in. I found close friends during campus tours and society booths. This week establishes the foundation for your university experience.
Smart Travel in London
At first, I struggled with the Tube or buses and ended up walking nine kilometers around London. Avoid this. Obtain your Student Oyster card and apply for the 18+ discount for more affordable travel. Walking is wonderful for uncovering hidden treasures, but utilize public transport for efficient exploration.
Identify Your Favorite Spots
London can be quite intense, so discover a comforting location. Mine is a nearby park where I go to unwind. The O2 is another beloved place for films. Uncover your own relaxing spots, whether it’s a café, bookstore, or bench by the river.
Discover the City
Familiarize yourself with your new environment around campus and your residence. Identify supermarkets, pharmacies, parks, and cherished locations for food or coffee. Explore renowned landmarks, free museums, and enjoy spontaneous strolls. Some of the most memorable moments arise from wandering a bit off course.
