Upon relocating to London as an international student, the first thing that strikes you is how fast expenses can build up, ranging from housing and food to transportation and tuition. The second realization is the unique professional atmosphere, where work, communication, and creativity are interpreted differently compared to your home country.<\/p>\n

For me, part-time employment served as a link between these two realms, allowing me to manage my expenses while gaining insight into the UK market, particularly from a marketing and customer experience standpoint. My initial and most cherished position was as a MORA Content Creator within Imperial’s central marketing department. It was an extraordinary experience to be compensated for crafting content for a prestigious university, positively influencing my entire year.<\/p>\n

Becoming a MORA Content Creator<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Collaborating with the MORA team to produce content viewed by over 700,000 individuals across Imperial\u2019s social media platforms was a fantasy come true. It encompassed storytelling and conveying the student experience, mastering institutional communication, and grasping the tone and authenticity that appeals to varied audiences.<\/p>\n

This position opened doors I never envisioned, such as interviewing notable personalities like Rishi Sunak and Akshata Murty. These opportunities would not have materialized had I not seized that initial chance. The MORA team is welcoming, supportive, and offers a creative environment to innovate. If you have a passion for storytelling and aspire to engage in fascinating content projects, this is among the top part-time roles at Imperial.<\/p>\n

Finding part-time opportunities<\/strong><\/h4>\n

There are numerous avenues to discover part-time employment while studying at Imperial. I secured mine through Imperial\u2019s internal job boards on JobsLive, LinkedIn, and career fairs during Welcome Week. The critical element is to customize your CV for the position you are interested in and display enthusiasm. Imperial\u2019s Careers Service can assist with CV writing, mock interviews, and job hunting. Most part-time employers value reliability, initiative, and a friendly demeanor, not solely prior experience.<\/p>\n

Balancing work and study<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Striking a balance between work and classes necessitates organization. I accepted shifts only when my class timetable was less demanding. Keep in mind that your degree is the foremost priority, but a well-selected part-time job can enhance your academic experience. My marketing coursework gained significance when I observed theoretical concepts applied in genuine job settings.<\/p>\n

Exploring different part-time jobs<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Throughout my Master\u2019s program, I explored various positions such as waiter, event manager, barista, and bartender. Each job imparted unique lessons. Work in hospitality helped me grasp true customer service, fostering patience, teamwork, and the ability to remain composed under stress. These insights and competencies have remained with me beyond the caf\u00e9 environment.<\/p>\n

Financial independence and visa rules<\/strong><\/h4>\n

From a financial perspective, part-time positions were a vital support. I managed to pay for rent, travel, and living costs, and even saved a little. As an international student, I was permitted to work up to 20 hours per week during term time and full-time during breaks, allowing for a balance between income and downtime. Adhering to visa regulations is essential, as exceeding working hours can jeopardize your visa status.
