Relocating to London as an international student quickly unveils how expenses can add up, ranging from rent and groceries to travel and tuition fees. Furthermore, the professional environment appears markedly different, with fresh approaches to work, communication, and interpretation of creativity compared to my home country.<\/p>\n

For me, part-time employment served as a bridge between these two realms, assisting me in managing my finances and gaining insight into the UK market, particularly from the standpoint of marketing and customer experience. My first and most enjoyable position was as a MORA Content Creator with Imperial’s central marketing department. Being compensated to produce content for a top university felt surreal and positively influenced my year.<\/p>\n

Becoming a MORA Content Creator<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Collaborating with the MORA team, crafting content for over 700,000 individuals across Imperial\u2019s social media platforms, was a dream come true. It involved storytelling and sharing the student journey, navigating institutional communication, and grasping the tone and authenticity that resonates with varied audiences.<\/p>\n

This position presented unforeseen opportunities, such as interviewing notable figures like Rishi Sunak and Akshata Murty. These experiences wouldn\u2019t have materialized if I hadn\u2019t seized that initial chance. The MORA team is friendly, supportive, and fosters a creative environment for exploration. If you have a passion for storytelling and wish to engage in exciting content projects, this is one of the premier part-time positions at Imperial.<\/p>\n

Finding part-time opportunities<\/strong><\/h4>\n

There are numerous avenues to discover part-time employment while studying at Imperial. I located mine through Imperial\u2019s internal job boards on JobsLive, LinkedIn, and career fairs during Welcome Week. The key is to customize your CV for the role and demonstrate enthusiasm. Imperial\u2019s Careers Service can assist with CVs, interview practice, and job hunting. Most part-time employers value reliability, initiative, and friendliness over mere experience.<\/p>\n

Balancing work and study<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Striking a balance between work and classes necessitates planning. I arranged shifts for when my class schedule was lighter. Keep in mind that your degree should take precedence, but a thoughtfully selected part-time role can enhance your studies. My marketing coursework felt more relevant when I encountered those concepts in actual job settings.<\/p>\n

Exploring different part-time jobs<\/strong><\/h4>\n

During my Master’s program, I undertook various roles such as waiter, event manager, barista, and bartender. Each provided me with unique insights. Hospitality jobs taught me genuine customer service, patience, teamwork, and maintaining composure under stress. These lessons have remained with me beyond the caf\u00e9 experience.<\/p>\n

As an international student, I could work up to 20 hours weekly during term time and full-time during breaks, allowing me to balance income and rest.<\/p>\n
