Moreover, the professional environment feels notably different, with fresh methods of working, communicating, and defining creativity in contrast to home.

Part-time employment acted as a link between these two spheres for me, assisting with financial management and providing a glimpse into the UK market, especially in marketing and customer experience. My initial and preferred position was as a MORA Content Creator within Imperial’s central marketing group. Being compensated to produce content for a prestigious university was surreal and had a positive effect on my year.

**Becoming a MORA Content Creator**

Collaborating with the MORA team to create content for over 700,000 followers on Imperial’s social media was a dream come true. It involved crafting stories and sharing student experiences, mastering institutional communication, and grasping the tone and authenticity that resonate with varied audiences.

This position uncovered unforeseen opportunities, such as interviewing public figures like Rishi Sunak and Akshata Murty. These encounters wouldn’t have occurred had I not embraced that first chance. The MORA team is supportive and fosters creativity. If you have a passion for storytelling and participating in content projects, this role is among the best part-time positions at Imperial.

**Finding Part-Time Opportunities**

Numerous avenues exist to discover part-time work at Imperial. I utilized Imperial’s internal job boards on JobsLive, LinkedIn, and attended career fairs during Welcome Week. Tailor your CV for the role and exhibit enthusiasm. Imperial’s Careers Service can help with CVs, mock interviews, and job hunts. Employers look for not only experience but also dependability, proactivity, and a friendly demeanor.

**Balancing Work and Study**

Juggling work and academic commitments necessitates organization. I arranged shifts during lighter class loads. Your degree remains the priority, but a strategically chosen part-time job can enhance your studies. My marketing coursework felt more applicable when integrated with real-world roles.

**Exploring Different Part-Time Jobs**

Throughout my Master’s, I experimented with several jobs including server, event manager, barista, and bartender. Each provided distinct learning opportunities. Hospitality positions instilled genuine customer service skills, patience, teamwork, and composure under pressure. These abilities remain beneficial beyond the café environment.

**Financial Independence and Visa Rules**

From a financial perspective, part-time roles were essential, helping to cover rent, transportation, and living costs, along with some savings. International students are permitted to work up to 20 hours weekly during term time and full-time during holidays, balancing income with rest. Following visa regulations is crucial, as exceeding work hours can impact visa status. Imperial offers guidance, and it’s wise to confirm conditions before accepting positions.

**Final Thoughts**

Looking back at my part-time experiences at Imperial, it was about more than just making money. It fostered confidence, taught professionalism in a new cultural context, and linked me with diverse individuals. Whether crafting coffee or designing digital campaigns, every position delivers invaluable lessons for the future.

If you’re beginning your Master’s and thinking about managing finances while gaining experience, consider part-time positions early on. A small “yes” today may lead to far more significant experiences than you can envision.

To discover more about my journey, [read my Imperial story.](https://www.imperial.ac.uk/Stories/my-imperial-story-vijay/)

By [Guest Blogger](https://blogs.imperial.ac.uk/student-blogs/author/bloggers/)

Categorised under [Careers](https://blogs.imperial.ac.uk/student-blogs/category/careers/), [Part-time job](https://blogs.imperial.ac.uk/student-blogs/category/part-time-job/), [postgraduate student life](https://blogs.imperial.ac.uk/student-blogs/category/postgraduate-student-life/)

Tagged [part-time work](https://blogs.imperial.ac.uk/student-blogs/tag/part-time-work/), [postgraduate work](https://blogs.imperial.ac.uk/student-blogs/tag/postgraduate-work/), [student jobs](https://blogs.imperial.ac.uk/student-blogs/tag/student-jobs/), [working as a student](https://blogs.imperial.ac.uk/student-blogs/tag/working-as-a-student/), [working as an international student](https://blogs.imperial.ac.uk/student-blogs/tag/working-as-an-international-student/)

Relocating to London as an international student quickly becomes apparent how costs such as rent, food, transportation, and tuition can add up.
