The professional environment also seems unique, with different approaches to working, communicating, and viewing creativity compared to what you’re used to in your home country.

For me, part-time employment connected these two realms, aiding me in managing expenses and getting to know the UK marketplace, particularly from a marketing and customer experience standpoint. My initial and most cherished position was as a MORA Content Creator with Imperial’s central marketing team. It felt incredible to receive compensation for crafting content for a prestigious university, and this experience significantly influenced my year.

**Transitioning to a MORA Content Creator**

By collaborating with the MORA team, I assisted in creating content that reached over 700,000 individuals on Imperial’s social media platforms. It involved narrating stories, sharing student experiences, grasping institutional communication, and recognizing the tone and authenticity that appeal to various audiences.

This position presented unforeseen chances, such as interviewing notable individuals like Rishi Sunak and Akshata Murty. These moments wouldn’t have been possible had I not seized that initial opportunity. The MORA team is encouraging, supportive, and offers a creative environment for experimentation. If you have a passion for storytelling and wish to participate in exciting content projects, this is among the top part-time positions at Imperial.

**Discovering part-time job options**

There are numerous avenues to uncover part-time employment while studying at Imperial. I discovered mine through Imperial’s internal job site on JobsLive, LinkedIn, and career fairs during Welcome Week. Customize your CV for the specific role you’re applying for and express enthusiasm. Imperial’s Careers Service can assist with CVs, mock interviews, and job searches. Keep in mind, most part-time employers value dependability, initiative, and friendliness, not solely experience.

**Managing work and studies**

Successfully juggling work and classes necessitates planning. I organized shifts around my lighter class schedule. Your degree remains the primary focus, but a well-chosen part-time position can enhance your studies. My marketing coursework seemed more significant when I applied those concepts in real-world positions.

**Trying out different part-time jobs**

Throughout my Master’s program, I experimented with various roles such as waiter, event manager, barista, and bartender. Each job imparted unique insights. Hospitality positions taught me genuine customer service, patience, teamwork, and maintaining composure under pressure. These skills have remained with me beyond the café.

**Financial autonomy and visa stipulations**

From a financial standpoint, part-time jobs were essential. I managed to finance my rent, travel, and living expenses while saving a little. As an international student, I could work a maximum of 20 hours per week during term time and full-time during breaks, achieving a balance between earnings and downtime.

It is crucial to follow visa rules, as exceeding work hour limits can jeopardize your visa status. Imperial offers clear guidance, and it’s advisable to verify conditions prior to accepting any employment.

**Concluding reflections**

Looking back on my part-time experience at Imperial, it was more than just making money. It fostered confidence, imparted professionalism in a new environment, and connected me with diverse individuals. Whether making coffee or developing digital campaigns, every role provides invaluable lessons for the future.

If you’re embarking on your Master’s and contemplating how to handle finances while gaining practical experience, start exploring part-time opportunities early. The small “yes” you offer today could lead to experiences beyond your wildest dreams.

To learn more about my experiences, [read my Imperial story](https://www.imperial.ac.uk/Stories/my-imperial-story-vijay/).

By [Guest Blogger](https://blogs.imperial.ac.uk/student-blogs/author/bloggers/)

Categorised under [Careers](https://blogs.imperial.ac.uk/student-blogs/category/careers/), [Part-time job](https://blogs.imperial.ac.uk/student-blogs/category/part-time-job/), [postgraduate student life](https://blogs.imperial.ac.uk/student-blogs/category/postgraduate-student-life/)

Tagged [part-time work](https://blogs.imperial.ac.uk/student-blogs/tag/part-time-work/), [postgraduate work](https://blogs.imperial.ac.uk/student-blogs/tag/postgraduate-work/), [student jobs](https://blogs.imperial.ac.uk/student-blogs/tag/student-jobs/), [working as a student](https://blogs.imperial.ac.uk/student-blogs/tag/working-as-a-student/), [working as an international student](https://blogs.imperial.ac.uk/student-blogs/tag/working-as-an-international-student/)

When you reach London as an international student, you swiftly realize how costs like housing, food, transport, and tuition can build up quickly.
