The professional environment also presents a notably different atmosphere, introducing new methods of working, communicating, and interpreting creativity.

Part-time employment served as a bridge between these different worlds for me, aiding in financial management and gaining insight into the UK marketplace, especially in marketing and customer experience. My initial and most enjoyable position was as a MORA Content Creator within Imperial’s central marketing department. Earning money to produce content for a prestigious university felt surreal and positively influenced my year.

**Becoming a MORA Content Creator**

Collaborating with the MORA team was a fantasy, generating content for over 700,000 individuals across Imperial’s social media platforms. This role included storytelling, exhibiting the student experience, embracing institutional communication, and grasping the tone and authenticity that resonate with varied audiences.

This position provided extraordinary chances, such as interviewing notable figures like Rishi Sunak and Akshata Murty. Accepting that first opportunity opened the door to these experiences. The MORA team is nurturing and fosters creative experimentation. If you have a passion for storytelling and engaging content projects, this is one of the finest part-time jobs at Imperial.

**Finding part-time opportunities**

Numerous avenues exist for discovering part-time employment while studying at Imperial. I located mine through Imperial’s internal job boards on JobsLive, LinkedIn, and career fairs during Welcome Week. Customize your CV for the specific role and express genuine enthusiasm. Imperial’s Careers Service is available to assist with CVs, mock interviews, and job searches. Employers value reliability, initiative, and friendliness in addition to experience.

**Balancing work and study**

Successfully balancing work and study demands strategic planning. I arranged shifts during times with a lighter class schedule. Your degree should remain the main focus, but a thoughtfully selected part-time role can enhance your studies. My marketing assignments felt more significant when connected to real-world positions.

**Exploring different part-time jobs**

Throughout my Master’s program, I ventured into various roles such as waiter, event manager, barista, and bartender. Each offered distinct lessons. Work in hospitality imparted real customer service skills, patience, teamwork, and the ability to remain composed under pressure. These abilities have followed me beyond the café environment.

**Financial independence and visa rules**

Part-time positions proved essential for financial support, covering rent, travel, living expenses, and allowing for some savings. International students may work up to 20 hours a week during term time and full-time during holidays, balancing their income with the need for rest.

Compliance with visa regulations is crucial, as exceeding work hours may jeopardize visa status. Imperial provides clear instructions, and it’s prudent to verify conditions before accepting any jobs.

**Final thoughts**

My part-time experience at Imperial transcended mere monetary gain. It fostered confidence, imparted professionalism within a new culture, and connected me with diverse individuals. Whether crafting coffee or developing digital campaigns, every position imparts valuable lessons for the future.

If you’re beginning a Master’s program and contemplating how to manage finances while gaining exposure and experience, consider exploring part-time roles early on. A simple “yes” today could pave the way for much greater experiences.

To learn more about my experiences, [read my Imperial story](https://www.imperial.ac.uk/Stories/my-imperial-story-vijay/).

By [Guest Blogger](https://blogs.imperial.ac.uk/student-blogs/author/bloggers/)
Categorised under [Careers](https://blogs.imperial.ac.uk/student-blogs/category/careers/), [Part-time job](https://blogs.imperial.ac.uk/student-blogs/category/part-time-job/), [postgraduate student life](https://blogs.imperial.ac.uk/student-blogs/category/postgraduate-student-life/)
Tagged [part-time work](https://blogs.imperial.ac.uk/student-blogs/tag/part-time-work/), [postgraduate work](https://blogs.imperial.ac.uk/student-blogs/tag/postgraduate-work/), [student jobs](https://blogs.imperial.ac.uk/student-blogs/tag/student-jobs/), [working as a student](https://blogs.imperial.ac.uk/student-blogs/tag/working-as-a-student/), [working as an international student](https://blogs.imperial.ac.uk/student-blogs/tag/working-as-an-international-student/)

Relocating to London as an international student quickly exposes the way costs can add up, encompassing rent, groceries, travel, and tuition fees.
