Stepping into London for the first time was quite a lot to handle. The city appeared vast, noisy, and full of energy. Armed with just a suitcase and Google Maps, I felt a bit lost on where to begin. If you find yourself in a similar position, there’s no need to fret. Here\u2019s some guidance to assist you in acclimatizing to London prior to your time at Imperial, enabling you to make the most of the city.<\/p>\n

No matter if you arrive weeks in advance or right before the semester starts, here\u2019s what I wish I had known upon my arrival.<\/p>\n

Book your housing early to steer clear of costly hotel stays. I was lucky, but not everyone shares this fortune, as the prime choices are snatched up quickly. Target a spot close to your campus or a dependable Tube line to lessen lengthy commutes for morning classes.<\/p>\n

As soon as you land in London, focus on these crucial tasks:<\/p>\n

Participate in Welcome Week to explore more than 350 student-led clubs and societies. Even if you’re reserved, urge yourself to engage. I connected with lifelong friends during campus tours and society showcases. The first week lays the groundwork for your university experience.<\/p>\n

          Smart Travel in London<\/strong><\/h3>\n

          At first, I struggled with the Tube and buses, leading me to walk nine kilometers across London. Prevent this by obtaining a Student Oyster card and applying for the 18+ discount for more affordable travel. Nevertheless, walking remains an excellent way to see the city and uncover hidden treasures.<\/p>\n

          Establish Your Comfort Zones<\/strong><\/h3>\n

          London can be emotionally taxing. Discover a comforting location, such as a park, cafe, or bookstore, to unwind and recharge. For me, it’s a nearby park and the O2 for films. These spaces provide solace in an expansive city.<\/p>\n

          Get to know your new environment, including local grocery stores, pharmacies, parks, and restaurants. Check out iconic landmarks, complimentary museums, and relish the view from a red double-decker bus. Some of your most cherished memories will emerge from wandering with no specific agenda.<\/p>\n
