Upon my initial arrival in London, I perceived it to be expansive, noisy, and quite daunting. Armed with merely a suitcase and Google Maps, I felt uncertain about where to start. If you find yourself in a similar predicament, don’t fret. Here’s a guide to help you acclimate to your new life in London before commencing at Imperial, allowing you to relish the city.<\/p>\n

Regardless of whether you arrive weeks in advance or just prior to the term, here’s the guidance I wish I had received.<\/p>\n

Steer clear of costly hotels by organizing your lodging ahead of time. I was fortunate, but not everyone shares that luck. The prime choices disappear quickly, so seek something close to your campus or a dependable Tube line to evade lengthy commutes.<\/p>\n

  • Bank account \u2013 digital banks such as Monzo or Starling are efficient and accommodating for students. You’ll require an account for transactions and part-time job payments.<\/li>\n

    During my first week, I was unfamiliar with the Tube or buses and ended up walking nine kilometers across London. It was unforgettable but chaotic. Obtain your Student Oyster card and apply for the 18+ discount for more affordable travel.<\/p>\n

    Walking remains a fantastic way to explore and uncover hidden treasures in London.<\/p>\n

    Identify your favorite spots<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    London can be overwhelming. Locate a place of comfort, such as a park, cafe, or bookstore, to unwind and recharge. My chosen places include a nearby park and the O2, where I relax every week.<\/p>\n

    Discover the city<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    Familiarize yourself with your campus and surrounding areas. Locate local supermarkets, pharmacies, parks, and your preferred dining spots.<\/p>\n

    Visit iconic landmarks, free museums, and take a ride on a double-decker bus for the scenery. Some of your fondest memories will stem from spontaneous explorations.<\/p>\n
