Upon my initial arrival in London, the city appeared massive, noisy, rapid, and somewhat intimidating. Equipped with merely a suitcase and Google Maps, I felt disoriented. If you find yourself in this situation, relax. Here\u2019s some guidance to assist you in acclimating to London prior to commencing at Imperial, enabling you to appreciate the city.<\/p>\n

Whether you land weeks ahead of schedule or just before the term starts, here\u2019s what I wish I had known.<\/p>\n

Steer clear of costly hotels by booking your housing in advance. I was fortunate, but that\u2019s not the case for everyone. The most desirable options are snatched up quickly! Try to find a place near the campus or along a reliable Tube line to minimize long travel times.<\/p>\n

Address these key necessities soon after arriving in London:<\/p>\n

Participate in Welcome Week to discover over 350 student-led clubs and societies. Even if you\u2019re introverted, make an effort to join in. I formed close bonds during spontaneous campus tours and society stalls. Your first week sets the tone for your university experience.<\/p>\n

    Navigate London Wisely<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    During my first week, I was unfamiliar with the Tube or buses, leading me to walk nine kilometers across London. It was an unforgettable experience but quite chaotic. Secure your Student Oyster card and apply for the 18+ discount for affordable travel. Walking is still a fantastic way to navigate the city and uncover hidden treasures.<\/p>\n

    Locate Your Comfort Zones<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    London can be quite overwhelming, especially at the start. Having a favorite place aids in coping \u2013 mine is a nearby park. I stop by daily to unwind. My second spot is the O2, just 10 minutes away, where I enjoy movies weekly. Discover your own havens, like a cozy caf\u00e9 or bookstore, to relax.<\/p>\n

    Discover the City<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    Familiarize yourself with the areas surrounding campus and your residence. Seek out local supermarkets, pharmacies, parks, and preferred dining spots. Explore iconic landmarks, free museums, and hop on a red double-decker bus. Some of your fondest memories will stem from little adventures of getting lost!<\/p>\n

    Concluding Advice for Starting at Imperial<\/strong><\/h3>\n
