Stepping into London was quite a lot to handle; the city seemed vast, energetic, and bustling. Armed with nothing but a suitcase and Google Maps, I was uncertain of where to start. If you find yourself in a similar position, don’t fret. Here\u2019s how to acclimate to London before beginning at Imperial, allowing you to savor the city.<\/p>\n

Whether you arrive weeks ahead or just in time for term, here\u2019s the guidance I wish I\u2019d been given.<\/p>\n

Secure your accommodation<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Book a place to stay early to sidestep pricey hotels. I was fortunate, but not everyone has that luck. Opt for housing close to your campus or along a dependable Tube line to prevent lengthy commutes.<\/p>\n

    Even if you\u2019re introverted, make an effort to get involved. I formed lasting friendships during campus tours and society gatherings. This week establishes the foundation for your university experience.<\/p>\n

    Getting around London: travel wisely<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    In the beginning, I struggled with the Tube and buses, walking nine kilometers to explore. Prevent this by obtaining a Student Oyster card and an 18+ discount for more affordable travel.<\/p>\n

    However, walking is still a wonderful way to uncover London’s hidden treasures.<\/p>\n

    Identify your favorite spots<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    London can be quite intense. Locate a comforting spot, like a park, caf\u00e9, or bookstore, to unwind and recharge.<\/p>\n

    Discover the city<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    Familiarize yourself with the neighborhoods surrounding your campus and residence. Find local grocery stores, pharmacies, parks, and dining places.<\/p>\n

    Explore iconic landmarks, free museums, and indulge in spontaneous adventures. Some of your most cherished memories will arise from wandering a bit aimlessly.<\/p>\n
