If you’re about to embark on this adventure, don’t stress. Here’s how to acclimatize to London before your time at Imperial begins, allowing you to fully enjoy your new urban life.<\/p>\n

Whether you arrive weeks in advance or just before classes start, here\u2019s the advice I wish had been shared with me.<\/p>\n

To sidestep pricey hotel expenses, make sure to arrange your accommodation well beforehand. I was lucky, but not everyone has that fortune. Opt for a location close to your campus or an efficient Tube line to minimize lengthy commutes for morning lectures.<\/p>\n

As soon as you settle in London, take care of these vital tasks quickly:<\/p>\n

    Your initial week is vital for connecting with flatmates, classmates, and potential friends. Participate in Welcome Week to discover over 350 clubs and societies. Even if you’re introverted, challenge yourself to get involved. I forged strong friendships during campus tours and society gatherings. This first week lays the groundwork for your university journey.<\/p>\n

    Navigate London Wisely<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    At first, I was confused by the Tube and buses and ended up trekking nine kilometers across London. Avoid making the same error. Obtain a Student Oyster card and apply for the 18+ discount to travel more affordably. That said, walking remains a fantastic way to explore and uncover unique treasures.<\/p>\n

    Identify Your Comfort Zones<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    London can be intense. Having a go-to comfort zone is beneficial. My sanctuary is a local park where I relax daily. The O2, merely 10 minutes away, is another favorite of mine for films and leisure. Discover your own havens, be it a cafe, a bookstore, or a riverside bench, where you can unwind and recharge.<\/p>\n

    Acquaint yourself with the neighborhoods surrounding your campus and residence. Identify nearby supermarkets, pharmacies, parks, and favorite eateries. Explore notable landmarks, free museums, and enjoy impromptu city strolls. Some of your fondest memories will arise from being a little lost.<\/p>\n
