Arriving in London for the initial time was quite a lot to take in. The city seemed vast, noisy, and fast-moving. Armed with only a suitcase and Google Maps, I felt uncertain about where to begin. If you find yourself in a similar predicament, there’s no need to panic. Here\u2019s some guidance to assist you in settling into London prior to your start at Imperial, allowing you to relish your new city life.<\/p>\n

Whether you land weeks ahead of schedule or just before the term commences, here\u2019s the guidance I wish I had when I first stepped foot in the city.<\/p>\n

Book your lodging in advance to prevent expensive hotel stays. I was fortunate, but not everyone encounters the same luck. The prime choices disappear fast, so strive to locate a residence close to campus or near a dependable Tube line to steer clear of lengthy commutes for early classes.<\/p>\n

Upon your arrival in London, promptly handle these vital tasks:<\/p>\n

  • Bank account \u2013 digital banks such as Monzo or Starling are efficient and friendly for students. Establish an account for transactions and income from part-time jobs.<\/li>\n

I formed close friendships during campus tours and society exhibitions. Your first week lays the groundwork for your academic journey.<\/p>\n

    In my inaugural week, I covered nine kilometers walking across London due to confusion with the Tube and buses. Avoid making my error. Acquire a Student Oyster card and apply for the 18+ discount for more affordable travel. Nevertheless, walking is a great way to uncover hidden treasures in the city.<\/p>\n

    Identify your favorite spots<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    London can be quite emotionally taxing. Having a place that brings you comfort is beneficial. For me, that\u2019s a local park and the O2 for films. Discover your own cherished locations, such as a caf\u00e9 or bookstore, to unwind and recharge.<\/p>\n

    Get to know your new neighborhood, including grocery stores, drugstores, parks, and preferred dining spots. Explore iconic landmarks, visit free museums, and enjoy spontaneous walks around the city. Some of your most cherished memories will arise from wandering a little off the beaten path.<\/p>\n
