Stepping into London for the first time was quite a lot to take in with its size, sounds, and rhythm. With just a suitcase and Google Maps as my guide, I felt uncertain about what to do next. If you find yourself in a similar boat, there\u2019s no reason to fret. Here are some tips to help you acclimate to London before you embark on your journey at Imperial, allowing you to relish your new life in the city.<\/p>\n

Whether you’re arriving early or right before the term kicks off, here\u2019s the advice I wish someone had given me when I first landed.<\/p>\n

Prevent expensive hotel stays by arranging your accommodation in advance. I was lucky, but not everyone shares that fortune, as the top choices vanish quickly. Try to find a location close to your campus or a dependable Tube line to spare yourself from lengthy trips to early classes.<\/p>\n

    Even if you tend to be reserved, challenge yourself to get involved. Some of my closest friendships were formed during campus tours and society events. Your first week lays the groundwork for your university life.<\/p>\n

    Smart Travel in London<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    At first, I was clueless about the Tube or buses, resulting in a nine-kilometer trek across London. It was an unforgettable yet hectic experience. Obtain a Student Oyster card and apply for the 18+ discount for reduced fares on the Tube and buses.<\/p>\n

    Walking remains a fantastic way to explore the city and uncover hidden treasures.<\/p>\n

    Identify Your Favorite Spots<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    London can feel a bit much at times, especially initially. Having a go-to spot aids in relaxation \u2013 mine is a local park where I unwind. The O2, just a short 10-minute journey away, is another favorite place for watching a film.<\/p>\n

    Discover your comfort zones, be it a cafe, bookstore, or a bench by the river, to unwind and recharge.<\/p>\n

    Discover the City<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    Acquaint yourself with the neighborhoods surrounding your campus and residence. Identify the closest supermarket, pharmacy, parks, and your preferred dining or coffee locations.<\/p>\n

    Visit iconic landmarks, discover free museums, hop on a double-decker bus, and wander with no specific plan. Some of your fondest memories will arise from a little bit of wandering!<\/p>\n

    Final Advice for Starting at Imperial<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Take a deep breath, grab your Oyster card, and start your London adventure one bus journey and Tesco trip at a time.<\/p>\n
