Here\u2019s how to kickstart your new life in London ahead of starting at Imperial, so you can savor the city.<\/p>\n

Whether arriving weeks in advance or just before classes commence, here\u2019s the guidance I wish I had been given.<\/p>\n

First things first: secure accommodation<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Book your lodging early to prevent pricey hotel expenses. I was lucky, but the prime selections vanish quickly. Aim for housing close to the campus or a dependable Tube line to minimize lengthy commutes for morning lectures.<\/p>\n

Upon your arrival, focus on these essentials:<\/p>\n

Even if you\u2019re introverted, challenge yourself to get involved. I formed lasting friendships during campus tours and society tables. This week will set the tone for your university adventure.<\/p>\n

    Getting around London: travel wisely<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    At first, I struggled with the Tube and buses, ending up walking nine kilometers across London. Prevent this by acquiring a Student Oyster card and applying for the 18+ discount for more economical travel. Walking remains a fantastic way to uncover the city and spot hidden treasures.<\/p>\n

    London can feel overwhelming, so identify a comforting location. For me, it\u2019s a nearby park and the O2 for weekly movie outings. Unearth your own places like a caf\u00e9, bookstore, or riverside bench to unwind and recharge.<\/p>\n
