Arriving in London was initially daunting due to its enormity and swift rhythm. Equipped with just a suitcase and Google Maps, I felt a bit lost on where to start. If you find yourself in this situation, there’s no need for concern. Here\u2019s a guide to help you settle in London before you begin your journey at Imperial, allowing you to savor your new life in the city.<\/p>\n

Regardless of whether you come weeks in advance or just before the semester kicks off, here\u2019s the guidance I wish I had received.<\/p>\n

To avoid expensive hotel costs, secure your accommodation well in advance. I was lucky, but not everyone gets that fortune as the prime locations fill up quickly. Try to find a residence close to your campus or a dependable Tube line to prevent lengthy commutes for morning classes.<\/p>\n

When you land in London, take care of these important tasks:<\/p>\n

    At first, I struggled to grasp the Tube and bus systems, which led me to walk nine kilometers across London. Avoid my error by acquiring a Student Oyster card and applying for the 18+ discount for lower travel costs.<\/p>\n

    Walking remains an excellent way to explore the city and uncover hidden treasures.<\/p>\n

    Identify Your Comfort Zones<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    London can be emotionally intense. Identify a comforting location, be it a park, cafe, or bookstore, to unwind and rejuvenate. My comfort zones include a nearby park and the O2 for my weekly cinema outings.<\/p>\n

    Get familiar with the areas surrounding your campus and residence. Identify the nearest supermarket, pharmacy, parks, and your preferred dining spots.<\/p>\n

    Visit iconic landmarks, explore free museums, and take a ride on a red double-decker bus to enjoy the sights. Some of your best moments will come from unplanned escapades.<\/p>\n
