Earlier this spring, I went through my closet to assess the clothing I owned. I donated some things and made small fixes on pieces that needed mending. That process has helped me keep my closet organized and get the most out of the clothing I already own.

As we approach summer, I pulled out some of the pieces I’m most excited to wear in the months ahead.

Today I’m sharing the five warm-weather clothing items that never lead me astray—my summer capsule wardrobe, if you will.

01

Overalls

Why I love them: I found a pair of white overalls from Mango last summer that ended up being in heavy rotation. The exact pair I have is no longer available but Mango has a really similar style, linked here! When it comes to overalls, I love the style, comfort, and how versatile they are for different occasions.

I also have a pair of Jesse Kamm overalls that are really special (I purchased them from Idun and received a press discount). The price point is high but the quality is so good. If you’re interested in searching for them at a lower price, resale sites like The RealReal are a great option to keep in mind!

How I’ll style them: There are so many ways to style overalls. Most often, I like to pair them with a cropped t-shirt or tank top, plus sandals or clogs!

Flowy Dresses

Why I love them: Dresses tend to be my go-to pieces to wear in the warm-weather months. You put one on and instantly look put together.

How I’ll style them: Most often, I’ll pair a dress with some sandals, a hat, and a swipe of lipstick and I’m good to go.

Bodysuits

Why I love them: The SKIMS and Maria Stanley bodysuits I own have a similar shape and are both amazing. They’re so comfortable, very flattering, and supportive. The SKIMS bodysuit comes in a bunch of color options too.

How I’ll style them: I love to wear these underneath an A-line skirt or shorts in the summer.

Oxford Shirts

Why I love them: I love a classic Oxford shirt—they’re casual yet chic in the very best way. I tend to prefer a looser fit and often buy them from the men’s section (and sometimes I’ll borrow Joe’s). I’ve also found some really great ones at thrift stores over the years.

How I’ll style them: One of my favorite ways to wear these is over a bodysuit and shorts.

High-Waisted “Mom” Shorts

Why I love them: I love the cut of these H&M denim shorts. They’re high-waisted and I find them to be really flattering. I bought the black denim wash last summer and there are now two additional washes available! I also have a pair of vintage Levi’s I’ve been wearing for years and love.

How I’ll style them: I’m excited to wear these high-waisted shorts with so many things—flowy tops, bodysuits, or tucked-in t-shirts.
