Why are wardrobe basics so hard to replace? A hardworking ribbed turtleneck, a basic jogger, a good crewneck. There are so many brands that offer these pieces for next to nothing that it should be easy.

I’ve purchased my fair share of fast fashion basics and while they work at the outset, there is just no longevity with them. They either fall apart after washing or don’t hold their shape. I spend more money replacing my replacements when I could’ve purchased a higher-quality staple rather than continuing the cycle of spending.

I recently tried two No-BS Pants from American Giant, a San Francisco-based fashion house producing quality, durable wardrobe pieces. Both the No-BS Kick Flare and the No-BS Pant look like structured pants (aka “hard pants”) while feeling like stylish, supportive leggings. From someone who has had two C-sections, this support in a legging (aka “soft pants”) is HUGE. I preferred the No-BS Pant, only because the Kick Flare high-rise ankle style wasn’t all that flattering on me.

Not all basics are created equal. While they may look the same side by side, it’s easy to see what will last season after season by looking closer at the cut and fabric. The No-BS Pant is incredibly flattering, and I hope that American Giant considers expanding their size offering so all can experience this flattering cut and comfort.

American Giant’s line of wardrobe essentials is an excellent resource for replacing that black t-shirt or hoodie that has seen better days. American Giant’s collection is an investment in pieces that outlast trends. You can feel good about your purchase knowing the quality is top-notch and the clothing is made in the USA, supporting local communities.

Here are a few other essential wardrobe pieces from American Giant that are made to fit and last longer than a season.

I would style these with a knit sweater and Chelsea boots for a casual look, or with kitten heels and a blouse for a special occasion. The kick flare gives them a dressier feel.

I love a dress that I can wear year-round. This would be perfect to slip on for a chilly summer evening in MN, or to wear with rain boots in the springtime. In the winter, I’d pair it with tights and Chelsea boots for something more casual; to elevate it, I’d throw on a pair of leather knee-high boots and add gold jewelry to accessorize.

With tall boots coming back into style, these are the perfect pants to tuck into your favorite rain boot or riding boot. Wear them with a chunky turtleneck for a laid-back look or style them with a blazer for something more elevated.

I would pair these classic sweats with the Premium Slub Turtleneck and a pair of warm booties to run errands, or with slippers and a cozy sweater to lounge at home.

Similar to a turtleneck, a neutral crew can be worn in so many different ways. This is the kind of piece that you can bring with you all year long. In the summer, throw it on with denim shorts and sneakers, and for winter, style it with a midi skirt and your favorite booties. You can never have too many crews to wear to the gym or while getting things done around the house!

A neutral turtleneck is essential for any winter wardrobe. It’s perfect for layering under big sweaters on colder days, or for dressing up with a skirt or trousers. There are endless ways to wear fitted turtlenecks, which is why investing in one is never a mistake.

Another amazing layering piece, a long-sleeve tee is definitely a winter staple. I love that a henley makes a tee just a bit more interesting with the button details. Style it with trousers and a leather jacket for a GNO or with jeans and Blundstones for running errands.
