For me, part-time employment served as a link between these two realms. It allowed me to oversee my finances while gaining insights into the UK market, particularly from a marketing and customer experience viewpoint. My initial and most cherished position was as a MORA Content Creator within Imperial’s central marketing team. It felt surreal to be compensated for generating content for a prestigious university, and it greatly enriched my year.
Becoming a MORA Content Creator
Collaborating with the MORA team, producing content that reached over 700,000 individuals across Imperial’s social media platforms, was a dream come true. The work centered on narrative-building and sharing student experiences, learning about institutional communication, and grasping the tone and authenticity that resonates with varied audiences.
This position opened doors I never anticipated, including opportunities to interview notable personalities such as Rishi Sunak and Akshata Murty. None of this would have materialized had I not embraced that initial chance. The MORA team is friendly, supportive, and offers a creative environment to explore. Managing work and classes necessitates organization. I made sure to accept shifts only during periods when my class schedule was lighter. Your degree should be your primary focus, but a well-selected part-time job can enhance your studies. My marketing coursework felt significantly more relevant when I encountered those concepts within real-world employment.
Sampling various part-time roles
During my Master’s program, I experimented with numerous positions such as server, event organizer, barista, and bartender. Each job imparted distinct lessons. My experience in hospitality deepened my understanding of authentic customer service, emphasizing patience, collaboration, and maintaining composure under duress.
