Upon relocating to London as an international student, the swift accumulation of costs from rent, groceries, travel, and tuition becomes evident. Another observation is the unique professional culture, showcasing different approaches to work, communication, and the interpretation of creativity relative to one’s homeland.
Part-time employment helped merge these realms for me, assisting in managing my finances while gaining insights into the UK market, particularly within marketing and customer experience. My inaugural and preferred position was as a MORA Content Creator within Imperial’s central marketing team. It felt surreal to receive compensation for crafting content for a prestigious university, positively shaping my year.
Becoming a MORA Content Creator
Collaborating with the MORA team to produce content for more than 700,000 followers on Imperial’s social media platforms was a dream come true. This role involved narrating stories and sharing student experiences, learning about institutional communication, and grasping the tone and authenticity that resonates with diverse groups.
This position presented unexpected opportunities, such as interviewing notable individuals like Rishi Sunak and Akshata Murty. None of these experiences would have occurred without initially agreeing to that opportunity. The MORA team is welcoming, supportive, and fosters creative exploration. Successfully balancing work and academics demands careful planning. I arranged my shifts during periods of lighter class loads. Your degree remains the main focus, but a well-selected part-time job can enhance your studies. My marketing modules gained additional significance when related to actual job experiences.

During my Master’s program, I explored various positions such as waiter, event manager, barista, and bartender. Each role imparted unique lessons. Hospitality jobs taught authentic customer service, patience, teamwork, and composure in high-pressure situations. These insights and skills transcend the café environment.
