Relocating to London as an international student swiftly highlights how costs can pile up, ranging from rent and groceries to travel and tuition fees. Another discovery is the unique professional culture, marked by differences in work, communication, and creativity compared to my home country.
Part-time positions connected these two worlds for me, aiding in financial management and gaining insights into the UK market, particularly from a marketing and customer experience angle. My initial and most enjoyable job was as a MORA Content Creator with Imperial’s central marketing team. It felt surreal to be compensated for creating content for a prestigious university, positively influencing my year.

Contributing to the team and developing content for over 700,000 followers on Imperial’s social media was a dream come true. It involved crafting narratives and sharing student experiences, grasping institutional communication, and learning the importance of tone and authenticity for various audiences.
This position presented unexpected experiences, like interviewing notable figures such as Rishi Sunak and Akshata Murty. These opportunities arose only because I accepted that first chance. The MORA team is welcoming, supportive, and encourages creative exploration. Balancing work and study
Striking a balance between work and classes requires careful planning. I arranged shifts for when my class schedule was lighter. Your degree should remain the main focus, but a strategically selected part-time job can enhance your educational experience. My marketing classes had greater significance when applied to real-world roles.
Exploring different part-time jobs
Throughout my Master’s program, I explored various roles such as waiter, event manager, barista, and bartender. Each role imparted unique lessons. Hospitality work ingrained in me genuine customer service, patience, teamwork, and composure under stress. These skills have stayed with me long after leaving the café.
