Upon arriving in London as an international student, it becomes apparent how quickly costs can mount, from housing and groceries to transportation and tuition. The professional environment also appears markedly different, with fresh methodologies for work, communication, and creativity compared to one’s home country.
For me, part-time employment acted as a link between these two realms, assisting in financial management and comprehension of the UK market, particularly in marketing and customer experience. My initial and preferred position was as a MORA Content Creator with Imperial’s central marketing team. Being compensated to produce content for a prestigious university felt surreal and positively impacted my year.

Contributing to the team and producing content for over 700,000 individuals across Imperial’s social media platforms was a fantasy come true. It entailed crafting narratives and showcasing the student experience, grasping institutional communication, and appreciating the tone and authenticity that appeal to varied audiences.
This position opened unexpected doors, such as interviewing notable personalities like Rishi Sunak and Akshata Murty. These opportunities would not have materialized without embracing that initial chance. The MORA team is welcoming, supportive, and encourages creative experimentation. There are numerous avenues to locate part-time work while enrolled at Imperial. **Balancing work and study**
Managing work alongside classes necessitates organization. I planned shifts for when my class workload was lighter. Your degree must remain the priority, but a carefully chosen part-time job can enhance your academic experience. My marketing studies became more relevant when applied to actual job scenarios.
**Exploring different part-time jobs**
Throughout my Master’s program, I engaged in a variety of roles such as waiter, event manager, barista, and bartender. Each position imparted unique lessons. Hospitality roles provided insights into true customer service, patience, teamwork, and maintaining composure under pressure. These experiences and skills have remained with me long after leaving the café.
