Upon relocating to London as an international scholar, you swiftly observe how costs build up, ranging from accommodation and groceries to transportation and tuition fees. Another insight is the unique professional environment, where work, communication, and creativity are viewed differently compared to your home country.
For me, part-time positions connected these realms, assisting in financial management and gaining insight into the UK market, especially in marketing and customer experience. My initial and most cherished role was as a MORA Content Creator with the central marketing team at Imperial. Earning money by producing content for a prestigious university was almost dreamlike and positively influenced my year.

This position presented surprising opportunities, such as interviewing notable figures like Rishi Sunak and Akshata Murty. None of this would have transpired without accepting that first opportunity. There are numerous avenues to discover part-time employment while studying at Imperial. I located mine through Imperial’s internal job boards on JobsLive, LinkedIn, and career fairs during Welcome Week. The secret is to customize your CV for the position and demonstrate enthusiasm. Imperial’s Careers Service assists with CV development, mock interviews, and job hunting. Most part-time employers value reliability, proactivity, and friendliness, rather than just experience.
**Balancing work and study**
Managing work alongside classes necessitates organization. I opted for shifts when my class schedule was lighter. Your degree remains the main focus, but a well-chosen part-time job can enhance your studies. My marketing assignments felt more relevant when applied to real-world situations.
**Exploring different part-time jobs**
During my Master’s program, I experimented with various roles such as waiter, event manager, barista, and bartender. Each job imparted distinct lessons. Hospitality positions taught me genuine customer service, patience, teamwork, and how to remain calm in high-pressure situations.
