Moving to London as an overseas student swiftly unveils the steep living expenses, from housing and groceries to travel and tuition fees. The professional environment also appears different, with new approaches to working, communicating, and viewing creativity compared to my home country.
For me, part-time employment connected these two realms, aiding in financial management and gaining insights into the UK market, especially in marketing and customer experience. My initial and most cherished position was as a MORA Content Creator within Imperial’s central marketing team. Being compensated to produce content for a prestigious university felt surreal and positively influenced my year.

These encounters wouldn’t have materialized without accepting that initial opportunity. The MORA team is welcoming, supportive, and provides a creative environment for experimentation. Numerous methods exist to discover part-time positions at Imperial. I located mine via Imperial’s job listings on JobsLive, LinkedIn, and through career fairs during Welcome Week. Employers value reliability, initiative, and approachability, not merely experience.
**Balancing work and study**
Managing work and lectures requires careful planning. I scheduled shifts only when my class commitments were lighter. Your degree should be the focus, but a suitably chosen part-time job can enhance your studies. My marketing coursework felt significantly more relevant when applying concepts in real-world roles.

During my Master’s program, I experimented with various roles such as waiter, event coordinator, barista, and bartender. Each position imparted distinct lessons.
