- Student ID card – vital for campus access, library privileges, and discounts. Obtain it without delay.
The Significance of Your Initial Week at Imperial
Your first week is vital for shaping your student experience. Connect with flatmates, classmates, and future acquaintances. Participate in Welcome Week to explore over 350 clubs and societies and dive into activities that spark your interest.
Even if you’re timid, challenge yourself to get involved. I formed lasting friendships during campus tours and at society stalls. The initial week lays the groundwork for your academic adventure.
Traveling Around London: Be Smart
During my first week, unfamiliar with the Tube or buses, I strolled nine kilometers across London. It was an unforgettable experience but a bit hectic. Obtain your Student Oyster card and apply for the 18+ discount for more affordable travel.
Walking remains the finest way to absorb the city and its culture. Uncover hidden treasures by exploring on foot.
Discover Your Comfort Zones
London can be daunting. Having a comfort zone helps – mine is a nearby park I visit daily to unwind. The O2, just a 10-minute walk away, is another place I enjoy for relaxing with a film.
Identify your spaces, be it a café, bookstore, or a riverside bench, where you can recharge and find peace.
Get Out and Discover!
Familiarize yourself with the neighborhoods surrounding your campus and residence. Locate nearby supermarkets, pharmacies, parks, and your preferred dining or coffee venues.
Explore iconic sites. Use weekends to roam the city. Check out free museums, take a ride on a double-decker bus, and wander without a set plan. Some of your best experiences will be derived from getting a little lost!
