Deciding to apply to Imperial is probably a choice you’ve been contemplating for some time, and the realization that you have a single opportunity can be intimidating. I experienced similar feelings while applying for my MSc Business Analytics program. Here’s a guide to the application procedure and tips on how to optimize it.

Selecting Your Master’s Program

This decision is vital, especially at Imperial Business School, where applications are limited to one course per cycle. Think about what you wish to study and how the program corresponds with your interests. I was attracted to Imperial for its adaptable course design, which allowed me to delve into new areas like logistics and supply chain analytics, aligning with my aspirations.

In my undergraduate studies, I aimed to become a business intelligence analyst, yet I wanted to explore different industries first. Attending Imperial clarified my interest in FMCG analytics, equipping me with invaluable skills.

Master’s Program Admission Criteria

Admission criteria may seem daunting given Imperial’s esteemed reputation. Compare your background with the program requirements. I discovered that I satisfied most of the criteria through my undergraduate studies. Programs do not seek perfection; they are interested in how you will apply and enhance your skills. Familiarity with the requirements makes them feel more attainable.

English Language Proficiencies

International applicants should be mindful of English language prerequisites. I wasn’t required to take additional tests, as my studies were conducted in the UK. If necessary, Imperial provides Pre-sessional courses tailored for academic English development.

Crafting Your Postgraduate Personal Statement

“Your uniqueness, inquisitiveness, and eagerness to learn are what provide you a competitive advantage in your personal statement, so don’t fixate too much on striving for perfection!”

Concentrate on authentic experiences instead of seeking perfection. I dedicated time to contemplate my career path, reasons for choosing Imperial, and prior experiences. Compiling everything from my undergraduate studies helped me relate experiences to each inquiry. Genuine presentations matter more than refined answers. Request feedback from someone you trust to gain new perspectives on your statement.

Obtaining References

Select referees who are familiar with you. I picked one based on shared interests and another based on academic guidance. Share your ambitions with referees to assist in providing informed references. Typically, Imperial sends referees a confidential link for their submissions. Allow ample time for their responses to reduce stress.

Postgraduate Interviews

Interviews serve as chances to showcase your thought process. Mine was conducted online with recorded queries. Avoid excessive preparation; focus on being able to articulate your experiences. Practice verbalizing your thoughts to ensure a natural delivery. Stay updated on course-related topics for assured answers. My interview lasted approximately 15-20 minutes. Approach it with clarity and assurance.

Application Phases and Deadlines

Imperial conducts application phases throughout the year. I submitted my application in February, and the process spanned around three weeks. Imperial’s My Imperial system facilitates saving progress. I received my offer in mid-May.

What I Underrated

I underestimated the time needed for document processing and Admissions responses during busy periods. I overlooked a scholarship deadline because I didn’t check the dates. Applying before receiving final results contributed to added pressure. Keep in mind external timelines such as documentation and referee responses.
