If you are contemplating an application to Imperial, it’s probably a carefully considered choice you have been deliberating on. The pressure of a single chance to apply can be quite significant. I felt similarly when submitting my application for the MSc Business Analytics course, so here is a guide to the application procedure and how to optimize your approach.
Selecting Your Master’s Program
Making this choice is essential, particularly at Imperial Business School, where applications are restricted to one Master’s program per admissions cycle. Look beyond your previous studies and concentrate on what you wish to pursue and how the program resonates with your aspirations and interests. I was in the final year of my BSc in Business Analytics and aimed to advance in this domain without reiterating previous content. The adaptable course structure and varied modules in logistics, supply chain analytics, and leadership at Imperial attracted me, aligning perfectly with my goals and interests.
Throughout my undergraduate education, I aspired to become a business intelligence analyst but was uncertain about a specific industry. Attending Imperial allowed me to investigate different sectors, ultimately leading me to FMCG analytics. This exploration was as beneficial as the technical competencies I acquired.
Master’s Program Admission Prerequisites
Admission prerequisites may appear daunting, especially given Imperial’s esteemed standing. Compare your background with the program requirements. I discovered that I satisfied most prerequisites through my undergraduate studies. Master’s programs do not anticipate complete mastery; they seek to understand how you will utilize and enhance your skills. Comprehending the prerequisites makes them seem more attainable.
A significant portion of my anxiety stemmed from misconceptions rather than actual requirements. Thoroughly examining the course page may reveal that you are better prepared than you realized.
English Language Proficiency Requirements
International applicants should take English language proficiency requirements into consideration. I was not required to take additional tests since I completed my studies in the UK. If necessary, Imperial provides Pre-sessional courses to assist with your academic English.
Crafting Your Postgraduate Personal Statement
“Your uniqueness, inquisitiveness, and eagerness to learn give you a distinct advantage in your personal statement, so don’t stress too much about making your responses sound flawless!”
Many individuals try to portray their experiences flawlessly, but this can come across as disingenuous. Use your experiences to your advantage. I dedicated significant time to my personal statement, contemplating my career path, reasons for choosing Imperial, and previous experiences.
Documenting everything from my undergraduate education, including projects and volunteering, enabled me to tie my experiences to each prompt. Instead of vague statements, I concentrated on specific projects and their impact on my interests and goals.
Being genuine and expressive is important, but steer clear of excessive detail. Overly polished or generic responses offer little benefit. I recorded my experiences and fine-tuned my draft progressively. Having a trusted individual review your statement can provide insightful feedback.
Obtaining References for Your Application
Select referees thoughtfully based on how well they understand you and your work. I selected one based on authentic interests and another based on academic focus. I consulted both before including them in my application, clarifying my objectives and course information.
Imperial usually sends referees a confidential link to submit their references. Verify the referee requirements and ensure they use a professional email address. Allow adequate time for referees to respond to evade last-minute anxiety.
Postgraduate Interviews
My interviews felt like a chance to showcase my reasoning. Conducted online with recorded questions, I
