Reflect on what you wish to explore beyond your prior education and how the program can assist you in understanding your passions and career path. During my BSc in Business Analytics, I established a foundation in analytical techniques and entrepreneurship. I was eager to pursue this area without duplicating content or restricting myself. The structure of Imperial’s course, with its adaptable module selections, caught my interest. The modules provided exposure to new fields such as logistics, supply chain analytics, and leadership, aligning with my aspirations and objectives.
Throughout my undergraduate education, I aimed to become a business intelligence analyst but was not committed to a particular industry. I wanted to investigate different sectors prior to dedicating myself to a full-time position. Studying at Imperial and engaging with various modules enabled me to discern what fit me best. Gradually, I found myself drawn to fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) analytics. This process of exploration offered insights as valuable as the technical expertise I acquired.

I discovered that I fulfilled most of the requirements through my undergraduate studies. Master’s programs do not expect proficiency in every area; they are interested in how you will apply your skills and knowledge to thrive. Grasping the course’s expectations makes the entry requirements more attainable and less overwhelming.
Most of my anxiety stemmed from assumptions rather than actual criteria. Thoroughly review the course page and align your experiences with what is requested. You may realize you are better prepared than you initially believed.
English Language Proficiencies
International applicants should take note of the English language requirements. You might be required to take a test such as IELTS, depending on where you completed your degree. I was not obligated to take additional exams since I had studied in the UK. If you must meet English language standards, refer to Imperial’s website for the accepted tests and qualifications. Imperial also provides Pre-sessional courses to enhance your academic English skills.
Developing Your Personal Statement

I dedicated considerable time to my personal statement, contemplating my career direction, reasons for choosing Imperial, and the connections between my previous experiences and future ambitions.
Documenting everything I engaged in during my undergraduate years, including modules, projects, clubs, and volunteer work, was beneficial. I reflected on my endeavors in data visualization, my interest in media and AI, and my leadership roles. I made direct connections to each question, steering clear of generic statements. Instead of claiming ‘I have a passion for data,’ I centered on specific projects and how they shaped my interests and goals.
Being expressive and genuine is important, but refrain from excessive detail. Responses that seem overly polished or generic contribute little value. I documented my experiences, lessons learned, and mistakes, refining my draft progressively. Asking someone you trust to review your statement can yield new insights.

Select referees thoughtfully, as strong recommendations hinge on their familiarity with you and your work. I chose one referee based on shared interests and another based on academic and career guidance. One was a professor who instructed me in media and AI, while the other was my professor for data visualization. This mix underscored both my enthusiasm and academic capabilities.
