This is a vital choice, particularly at Imperial Business School, where you are permitted to apply for just one Master’s program each cycle. Reflect on what you want to delve into beyond your prior studies and how the program corresponds with your interests and ambitions. I selected Imperial due to its adaptable course framework, featuring modules in areas such as logistics, supply chain analytics, and leadership, aligning perfectly with my passions and goals.
Throughout my undergraduate journey, I aimed to become a business intelligence analyst but sought to investigate various industries first. Attending Imperial helped me solidify my interests, especially in FMCG analytics, through exposure to diverse sectors and collaborative efforts, which were as beneficial as the technical skills acquired.
Master’s Course Admission Criteria
Admission criteria can feel intimidating, yet it’s crucial to measure them against your experiences. I discovered that I satisfied most criteria through my undergraduate education. Master’s programs don’t seek perfection; they’re interested in how you will utilize and enhance your skills. Grasping the criteria makes them seem more attainable.

In crafting your personal statement, prioritize authentic experiences over overly polished responses. Contemplate your career trajectory, reasons for selecting Imperial, and how past experiences relate to your aspirations.
I detailed everything from my undergraduate studies, including projects and volunteer work, connecting them to each query. Rather than employing generic phrases, I utilized specific experiences to demonstrate my interests and objectives. Being genuine and expressive holds more significance than extensive descriptions. Draft, refine, and seek insights from someone you trust for an outside perspective.
Obtaining References for Your Application
Select referees thoughtfully, focusing on their familiarity with you and your work. I chose one based on my interests and another reflecting my academic trajectory. Discuss your aspirations with them to ensure informed referrals. Imperial generally provides referees with a link to upload their references, so verify the requirements and make sure they are using a professional email.
Allow ample time for referees to respond to prevent last-minute pressure.
Postgraduate Interview Process
Interviews provide a platform to showcase your thought process. Mine was conducted online with pre-recorded questions, which allowed limited time for responses. Avoid excessive preparation that may render answers sound rehearsed. Emphasize understanding and clearly articulating your experiences.
Practice articulating answers aloud to ensure they flow naturally. Stay updated on your course subjects to speak with confidence. My interview centered around course topics rather than my written application, lasting approximately 15 to 20 minutes. Approach with clarity, confidence, and comprehension of your motivations.
Postgraduate Application Phases and Timelines
Imperial hosts application rounds throughout the year. I submitted my application in February during the second round, dedicating three weeks to prepare my application alongside final exams. Imperial’s My Imperial system allows for progress saving, facilitating the process. I received my offer by mid-May, so structure your timeline accordingly.
What I Undervalued When Applying for a Master’s
I misjudged the duration required for document processing and Admissions feedback during busy seasons. I missed a scholarship opportunity because I didn’t check dates thoroughly. Submit applications early to accommodate external timelines such as university documentation and referee submissions.
International applicants should be mindful of the additional steps after receiving an offer, such as CAS, visa applications, and travel arrangements, as these require time and coordination.
